Sokolov - The Sokolov City Hall has begun negotiations to purchase the land on which a new multifunctional educational facility with a library is to be built in the future. The city wants to acquire most of the land from the state, informed Sokolov's mayor Karel Jakobec to the reporters.
The new library, which is to be the largest investment by the city in recent years, is to be located on the edge of Husovy Sady, not far from the district hygiene station building. "Most of the necessary land, about 500 square meters, belongs to the state and is managed by the hygiene station," Jakobec stated. The city leadership expects to acquire the land from the state at the estimated price.
However, it will be more complicated to acquire the remaining part of the land, which belongs to a private owner. "The couple who owns the land have not been taking care of it for a long time and are also untraceable. Therefore, we will file a lawsuit for the possession of the land," Jakobec noted.
The City Hall is currently having a study prepared by architect Roman Koucký regarding the design of the library. "According to the volumetric study we have prepared, the construction costs should be between 70 and 150 million crowns," said Sokolov's deputy mayor Jaromír Dvořák to ČTK today. Due to the high costs, Sokolov intends to apply for a grant from European Union funds.
