An unusual family home was literally assembled from interconnected "boxes" by architect José Gonzáles Gallegos in a pine forest at the foot of Mount Abantos, just an hour's drive northwest of Madrid. The convoluted house, divided into several floors, allows even the basement rooms to enjoy exclusive views. The mass of several connected volumes appears more compact and does not disrupt the landscape, as it is barely higher than the surrounding terrain.

The concept of connected boxes has proven to be an ideal way to integrate modern architecture into the natural environment. This intention is emphasized by the use of rusty Corten steel, whose texture and color allow the house to blend in with the reddish-brown hues of the pine forest. From practically every room, there is a unique view of the surrounding nature – the views are framed by narrow aluminum profiles of the windows and sliding systems from Schüco, even in the lowest floors. Sliding doors also allow for generous opening of the walls – therefore, you not only see nature, but you can also step into it.

The house is oriented along the north-south axis, ensuring plenty of daylight even in the winter months. Given the hot Spanish climate, however, both the architect and the investor chose a location on the northeastern side of the highest point of the plot. Natural ventilation and cooling are facilitated by the very sliding systems from Schüco, which clear the way for cool air flowing from the forest.

The views are one of the main advantages of the house – to the southwest, the view opens up to deep forests, while to the east, a large porch offers glimpses of the Royal Basilica of San Lorenzo de El Escorial with the domes of the 16th-century palace and monastery.

The ground floor consists of the main living area, which is naturally divided into day and night zones. The day area includes the kitchen, dining room, living room, and library, which is located at the highest point. The night area comprises four bedrooms. The lower floor contains the technical facilities, office, game room, workshop, and a guest room with its own bathroom. Thanks to the thoughtful layout and placement of the individual volumes along the slope, it is possible to enjoy the views even from the basement.
