Pardubice - A new courthouse will be built in Pardubice after years of stagnation and searching for a suitable location. This was confirmed by the head of the Pardubice branch of the regional court in Hradec Králové, Milan Špryňar, as reported by today's Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in the supplement for the Pardubice region. The construction costs are estimated at 600 million crowns.
"The judicial complex will be built in Pardubice. The Ministry of Justice has decided on that," said Špryňar.
The new building, which will house the branch of the regional court, the public prosecutor's office, and likely the district court, will most probably rise on Na Spravedlnosti street opposite the Pardubice police headquarters after years of searching. The future regional police headquarters is also expected to move there. Thus, the regional justice and police would be located in one place.
According to Špryňar, construction could begin between the years 2009 and 2012. "Where the building will be built has not yet been decided, but the most likely option is the site of the former auto dealership on Na Spravedlnosti street," said Špryňar.
According to him, the courthouse could accommodate several hundred employees. "In the study we sent to the Ministry of Justice, we estimate about 250 people for the regional court and 200 staff for the public prosecutor's office. However, that many people will not be working there immediately. The building has to function for 100 years, and according to estimates, people will be suing much more in ten years than they do today," stated Milan Špryňar.
In time, the courthouse would become the seat of an independent regional court. This is still lacking in the region partly because it does not have its own dignified building. Currently, the Pardubice branch of the regional court operates in rented premises. "Like in other regions, the Pardubice branch of the regional court also needs its own building, which is cheaper than paying rent. Furthermore, there is neither a regional prosecutor's office nor a branch because it lacks space. This could be resolved with a complex building for judicial regional authorities," said the first deputy governor, Roman Línek.
