Prostějov - Due to the demolition of six production buildings of the Prostějov Clothing Company, during which two people were lightly injured last June, demolition supervisor Zdeněk Šobíšek received a fine of several tens of thousands of crowns. Šobíšek faced a fine of up to 50,000 crowns, and the imposed sanction is at its upper limit, said Bohuslav Machek, spokesman for the State Mining Authority, today. Šobíšek has already paid the fine. According to Machek, Šobíšek used a larger number of explosives during the demolition of the six OP buildings than was permitted by the mining office in the documentation. Fragments of masonry therefore flew beyond the safety zone. The mining office initiated administrative proceedings regarding the demolition of the OP buildings in early August last year and heard four affected individuals. Afterward, it summoned the demolition supervisor. Šobíšek told ČTK at the end of July that no safety regulations were violated during the demolition of the OP buildings. However, a video emerged on the internet showing a fragment of masonry narrowly missing a group of spectators. Šobíšek disputed the video and then stopped communicating with the media. The demolition of the former OP production halls was watched by hundreds of people at the site on June 28. A safety zone was marked off around the buildings, which people were not allowed to enter. Surrounding streets were closed due to the demolition, and police officers and firefighters oversaw public order. A total of 2,404 non-electrical and 856 electrical charges were used for the demolition of the six OP buildings, amounting to 1,193 kilograms of dynamite. The buildings collapsed to the ground in an instant. The new owner of the area, Astria Group, decided to demolish the bankrupt OP Prostějov production halls. They plan to build a large exhibition hall on part of the land and will likely offer part of the lots to investors or the city, which could use them as an industrial zone. The bankrupt OP Prostějov company was once the largest Czech textile company and, in times when the firm also operated its branch plants, employed up to 10,000 people.
