Students of the Faculty of Architecture CTU are building a house of the future near their faculty

A minimalist but cozy wooden house with a terrace, completely equipped with modern technologies that allow for self-sufficiency and minimal energy costs. This is how students from the Czech Technical University envision the house of the future. Their construction, called Air House, which has been in progress this week in Prague's Dejvice, will be the first Czech representative to participate in the international competition for the most efficient ecological house, the Solar Decathlon.
     Students are managing the project themselves, securing its funding, designing the construction, and ultimately building it with their own efforts. However, they consult with experts on the selected technologies, who sponsor the project's realization. The Air House is designed to not only save consumption but also to be environmentally friendly from the very beginning of the construction. Therefore, the materials should also allow for easy and efficient maintenance with minimal input of energy and raw materials. Wood was chosen as the primary building element. The house was designed with an emphasis on simplicity while also maximizing comfort.
     "The economical spatial solution is based on the tradition of minimal living, where an ingenious architectural design saves space and consequently also the acquisition and operating costs. The aim is to place the maximum number of functional units outside of the air-conditioned space, thereby minimizing the energy expended on maintaining internal comfort," said Kateřina Rottová from the student team, adding: "The goal of our strategy is to design an energy-efficient, as recyclable as possible, and healthy house that appeals to all of a person's senses."
     The house is expected to be completed by the end of July, when it will be ceremoniously unveiled. It will then be open to the public. During August and September, the house will be disassembled and moved to California in the USA, where it will be presented alongside other projects. In the first half of October, the evaluation of individual projects will take place, and the winner will be announced.
