ČVUT will unveil a unique intelligent house, which will compete in the USA in October

A team of students from the Czech Technical University in Prague has completed their competition house AIR House for the international Solar Decathlon and invites you to its festive christening.



The christening will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 5:00 PM in the area in front of the New Building of the Czech Technical University (Thákurova 7, Prague 6). The event will be preceded by a press conference and a tour of the house for media representatives.

The Solar Decathlon is an international student competition in building ecological solar houses, organized by the U.S. Department of Energy, in which 20 selected university teams from around the world are tasked with designing, building, and operating an energy self-sufficient solar house. The constructions are created on university campuses, and the finished houses will be presented to the public during a two-week exhibition, where the structures are evaluated in 10 disciplines.
The ČVUT team was selected in January 2012 as the first representative from the Czech Republic to the finals of the 6th edition of the competition. Within ČVUT, it is the first project of interdisciplinary collaboration involving students from across the entire university under the guidance of the Faculty of Architecture.

AIR HOUSE is designed as an energy-neutral house. All the energy needed for household use and to ensure optimal indoor climate is derived from solar radiation. The final design was determined by the energy concept that responds to the different climatic conditions of the western coast of the USA and the Czech Republic.

During nearly two years of work, the students designed the competition house themselves, secured project financing, and promoted it. Since June 2013, the AIR House students have been constructing it with their own efforts directly on the ČVUT campus in Dejvice, Prague, from where the competition building will be sent to the USA. The final competition of Solar Decathlon 2013 will take place in California from October 3 to 13, 2013.
