Tábor – Tábor will have a newly established city architect's office. Its head will be Kateřina Čechová, who was selected by the city council. City architect offices are primarily established by larger cities such as Liberec or Brno. However, Tábor anticipates that the new institution will help with the conceptual development of the city. The mayor, Štěpán Pavlík, said this to reporters today.
"The city is facing a number of architectural issues and the office should have a knowledgeable expert," he stated. Tábor is, for example, preparing a project for a new urban district in the former Žižkov Barracks. In an area named Dvorce, up to 2,000 people should live in the future.
Thirty-seven-year-old Čechová emerged from a selection process that the city council announced some time ago. The architect currently lives in Prague, where she also works. "But she has family ties to Tábor and will be moving here," said Pavlík. Čechová is expected to start on October 1. Besides her, the city architect's office will also include three to four employees from the municipal office.
"We were very pleased to have found a person we were truly looking for. She is an expert knowledgeable in urban processes," said Pavlík. Čechová completed her master's studies in Liechtenstein. She has interned in Switzerland, Austria, and China. "Since 2014, she has also had teaching commitments at the Faculty of Architecture," the mayor stated.
According to the mayor, the city council leaned towards Čechová primarily considering her priorities. Among them are, for example, working with water. "This is very important in our case because it has a 500-year tradition in Tábor," said Pavlík. The Lužnice River flows through Tábor and the Jordán valley reservoir is located in the city.
"I must commend the work of the current city architect, but due to constant development, we believe that Tábor already needs a city architect's office," said Pavlík.
