Zlín - Heavy machinery will be deployed for the demolition of outdated facilities in an area known as Smurf City in the Jižní Svahy housing estate in Zlín in two to three weeks. The company that will demolish the site took over the construction site at the beginning of last week and has started clearing the buildings. For the gradual dismantling and removal of structures, they will use an excavator with demolition shears and hydraulic pliers, said Daniel Rosa, a member of the board of the company Trepart, to journalists today. The company has three months for the demolition, which will be completed by mid-December.

The outdated facilities from the 1990s included bars, pubs, and a café. The Vizovice manufacturer of modular systems, Koma Modular, will build a new facility called Nový Čech there after winning the competition for the land use, for 100 million crowns.

"Demolition work will mostly take place in the morning and afternoon hours, with an effort to limit working hours outside of weekends," said Rosa. The most demanding and loudest part of the demolition will last about three to four weeks. "These are mostly standard buildings, the structural composition is diverse, so there will be plenty of material," said Rosa. The area contains about twenty smaller single-story buildings. The demolition will cost 3.6 million crowns excluding VAT.

The cleared space will be handed over to Koma Modular. The company is completing the final architectural study and has started working on the project for the building permit. They hope to start construction at the end of next year. "It will be crucial to obtain the building permit, as the timeline for construction work will depend on that," said Marie Schüller, the company's marketing director, who will be responsible for the operational part of the center, to ČTK today. The company will place modules on the land that will create a temporary information booth.

Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO) stated today that the new building will function as a commercial and community center and will become the center of Jižní Svahy. "The content should be very diverse, ranging from educational academies, food services, it will be possible to hold markets, open-air cinema, there will be pedestrian terraces, a viewing terrace for Zlín. There will be a vertical garden that will supply plants to the food services. And many other activities," said Brada.
