Úvaly - Úvaly near Prague plan to build a transport terminal near the local train station in the coming years. It is set to become a modern transfer point between regional buses and trains running on the corridor from Prague to Kolín. After the terminal construction is completed, Úvaly intends to introduce parking zones throughout the city to regulate parking, said Mayor Petr Borecký (STAN) to ČTK. Construction could begin in 2024 or 2025.
According to the mayor, the construction of a modern transportation terminal of the 21st century is already being prepared. Architectural studios are currently preparing design proposals, with results expected to be presented in September. "A contract will be signed with the winner, and the project should proceed to the design phase," said Borecký. He noted that it will take project designers approximately up to 1.5 years to obtain a building permit.
The project for the transport terminal, according to Borecký, addresses the entire area from the railway crossing, Jirásková Street, the station itself, and the location behind the station, where a parking lot currently exists. "In recent years, we have been purchasing land to have a cohesive area from the barriers to the station. The goal of all this is to be able to also address Jirásková Street," said Borecký.
According to him, the terminal will have clear preferences. Public transport should dominate, followed by bicycles, and only then individual transportation by cars. There will also be covered bike parking and a Park and Ride (P+R) parking lot created here.
After the terminal is completed, parking zones will be established in Úvaly. "The system will be very similar to the one in Říčany," said Borecký. The parking zones will address the entire city, ensuring that people park only in designated parking areas around the station, or alternatively use public transport to get to the train.
