Olomouc - Demolition of the last large building has begun at the site of the former Milo company near the historic center of Olomouc. Construction machinery is gradually dismantling the administrative headquarters of the bankrupt factory, where the Šantovka Tower high-rise building is planned to be constructed. The new high-rise landmark, adjacent to the new shopping center Galerie Šantovka, has many opponents in Olomouc, and the investor has not yet obtained the necessary permits for its construction. "The demolition (of the administrative building of the Milo factory) will be completed within a few weeks and follows the completion of outdoor areas after the opening of Galerie Šantovka," project spokesperson Juraj Aláč told ČTK today. Construction machinery had already previously demolished several production and storage buildings in the Milo area. In their place, for example, a new parking lot and a playground for children have been created. The new urban district Šantovka is being developed at the site of the former Milo factory by the company SMC Development. In addition to the already completed shopping center Galerie Šantovka, they also plan to build the Šantovka Tower high-rise building. However, the Olomouc regional office canceled the decision of the conservationists of the magistrate in January due to several errors, who had given consent for the planned construction of this new high-rise landmark in the protective zone of the city heritage reserve. The negative stance of the regional office complicated the preparation for the construction of the Šantovka Tower building. "We are currently analyzing all the issued decisions, and only then will we consider further steps," Aláč stated. The magistrate has terminated the proceedings on the Šantovka Tower project after the intervention of the regional office. "At this moment, the heritage care department is not conducting any further administrative proceedings in this matter. A new proceeding, which would need to rectify the identified errors, would only commence if a new application were submitted by the investor," said the city hall spokesperson Radka Štědrá to ČTK. The Šantovka Tower, with its 75 meters, would share the position of the second highest building in Olomouc with the town hall. Alongside the conservationists, some experts also oppose its construction, claiming that it would damage the panorama of the historic center of Olomouc. According to the investors, the panorama will not be disrupted. The construction of the urban district Šantovka, which is gradually emerging on 11 hectares, is expected to cost about ten billion crowns. It will include a residential area, a shopping center, and an office complex. Architects from the London studio Benoy are involved in the project located on the site of the former Milo company.
