Beroun - In Beroun, the long-delayed construction of a skateboard park worth more than five million crowns has reached the final stage. Completion is expected in the middle of the month and opening at the turn of October and November, Deputy Mayor Tomáš Havel (ODS) told reporters today. "Access roads are ready, the fencing is being finished, and the last parts of the entire area are being completed," he stated. The city initially wanted to obtain funding from the European Union for the construction. However, this eventually proved unrealistic, so the city hall decided to allocate money for the skatepark from the municipal budget. "The construction is surprisingly large. According to the designer and the people building it, it will probably be one of the best skateparks of this type in the country," insisted the deputy mayor. According to him, the city plans a full-day exhibition program with music for the grand opening, during which Beroun-born Tomáš Vintr, one of the best current Czech professional skateboarders, will perform. Originally, it was considered that the skatepark would be built under the highway bridge. However, engineering networks run through this land, it is located near the Beroun tax office, and a large number of people circulate in its vicinity. Ultimately, the city hall decided to establish the area by the Litavka river next to the former sugar factory, now the Beroun Bear Brewery. The uncovered skatepark will simulate an urban street environment. Enthusiasts of this sport will thus save the wooden benches and marble cladding in the city. The area will be fenced and locked at night, similar to the children's playgrounds in Beroun. The sports facility, measuring 40 by 19.5 meters, will be used by skateboarders, in-line skaters, and BMX bikers. The popularity of skateparks in Central Bohemia has been growing in recent years. Almost all larger towns have obstacle playgrounds. They can be found in, for example, Nymburk, Kolín, Čáslav, Bělá pod Bezdězem, Mělník, Neratovice, Mnichovo Hradiště, Votice, or Příbram.
