Brno - In Brno-Kohoutovice, locals want to build a new center with a town hall. The district, with 13,000 inhabitants, currently lacks a central square, and the town hall is located in an old development that is less accessible to people from the housing estate. Locals want to establish a new square in the area at the corner of Libušina Street and Voříškova Street, said the mayor of Kohoutovice, Jiří Zorník, to reporters today.
    Politicians originally considered constructing a new town hall building in the area. They are now in favor of relocating it to the health center building. According to Zorník, the property owner is willing to sell or exchange the building. Politicians and officials of the district estimate its value at 20 to 25 million crowns. They also had a static assessment of the building carried out. "It is structurally sound, and there is even a possibility of an extension," said the mayor.
    The current town hall building could, it seems, be sold, or the health center owner could receive it in an exchange. The residents of Kohoutovice estimated its price at 15 million crowns.
    Preparations for the necessary documents at the Kohoutovice town hall are now underway so that the city can begin negotiations with the owner. "Within one to two years, if the city council of Brno approves it, we would attempt to purchase the building and prepare for reconstruction between 2011 and 2013," said Zorník. Locals plan that the ground floor of the current health center would house shops, with the town hall above them.
    Building a natural center for the district with services in one place is intended to help Kohoutovice shake off its image as a shelter, said the mayor. To make Kohoutovice more attractive for leisure activities, a swimming pool is also planned to be built in the district. The city council has already selected a company to construct it. They promised to build the facility with a pool, gym, and relaxation services for nearly 200 million crowns.
