Brno – The completion and opening of the multifunctional hall in Brno is among the anticipated events of 2026 in South Moravia. People in Blansko and Břeclav can look forward to new or renovated sports facilities. The cultural calendar is dominated by the Janáček Brno festival biennale, whose last edition received the prestigious award The International Opera Awards.

The construction of the arena, with a capacity of up to 13,300 spectators, began at the Brno exhibition center in September 2023. It will become the new home of the hockey team Kometa and will provide space for concerts, sports events, and other activities. The costs amount to five billion crowns.

Next year, work will also begin in Brno on the next phase of flood protection measures. Protection along the Svratka and Svitava rivers is estimated to cost 3.8 billion crowns, with completion expected by the end of 2028.

The South Moravian region will open a rehabilitation institution in Pasohlávky near Brno in the second half of next year. The Pálava Sanatorium, costing 800 million crowns, will provide follow-up care for patients after severe and critical conditions in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, traumatology, and orthopedics.

In Blansko, workers should complete the largest investment in the modern history of the city by 2026, an indoor swimming pool at the Sports Island of Ludvík Daněk. Construction began at the turn of 2024 and 2025, with the planned opening of the pool in August 2026. This is an investment of 321 million crowns. In Vyškov, the restoration of the castle garden, costing nearly 50 million crowns, should be completed around the same period.

After a year and a half of repairs costing half a billion crowns, the Břeclav swimming pool is expected to open in July, while the indoor pool is likely to open a month later. Both sports facilities were at the end of their lifespan in terms of construction and technology, and their repair began this January. The Hodonín Zoo will complete a new aquarium pavilion this summer. The previous one was damaged by a tornado in 2021.

In the spring, the town hall tower in Znojmo is expected to reopen after four years. In the past, it was one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city. The renovation work has significantly prolonged. The technical condition was worse than experts expected, and the city also decided to build a new exhibition inside.
