Brno - The construction of the multifunctional hall at the Brno exhibition center is becoming more expensive. City councilors today approved an addendum to the contract with the contractor, which concerns an increase in price by 18.8 million crowns. This was primarily caused by unexpected additional work. These include contamination of the waste soil or the presence of hidden structures in the subsoil. The additional work does not affect the completion date of the construction in 2026. Filip Poňuchálek, spokesperson for the Brno magistrate, said this today to ČTK.

"In such extensive and technologically demanding constructions, this is not unusual. We are in continuous contact with the contractor and discuss all changes. There is no violation of the contract, which explicitly states that the price of the work must not exceed the originally contracted price by 30 percent," said Poňuchálek.

Work began last September. Specific outlines are now clear, and structures for the stands are being erected, for example. The construction will cost four billion crowns, the land cost more than 152 million crowns, and approximately 237 million crowns are for design work, construction management, and author supervision. The city also anticipates costs of about 470 million crowns for the interior equipment and has set aside a reserve of 897 million.
