Brno has a contractor for the construction documentation of the multifunctional hall

Brno – The documentation for the zoning decision and building permit for the construction of a multifunctional hall at the Brno exhibition grounds will be created by the consortium of companies A Plus and Arch.Design. It is expected to be completed by the end of next year, said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) to reporters today. The hall, which will have a capacity of at least 12,000 spectators, where the hockey team Kometa will play, but which will also host concerts, is to be built by 2024 to compete for hosting the ice hockey world championship. The construction costs exceed one billion crowns.

The companies A Plus and Arch.Design won the competition. The hall will be located at the Brno exhibition grounds, which are under the city-owned company Veletrhy Brno. According to Vaňková, the exact price is not yet clear, but it will exceed one billion crowns and could approach two billion. "We strive for the hall to be an ecological building," Vaňková stated.

The city is negotiating with representatives of the state and the region about multi-source financing, and it is possible, according to Vaňková, that the city will have to take out a loan for its share. Vaňková also indicated that the private sector will likely not participate in financing the construction of the hall. In the past, there was talk of a possible involvement of Kometa Brno and its supporters. On the other hand, it is unclear how much the state is expected to contribute, but the city anticipates hundreds of millions of crowns.

The multifunctional hall is set to offer seating for at least 12,000 spectators, and with standing spaces, the capacity could, according to Jiří Kuliš, director of Veletrhy Brno, increase to 15,000. Music promoter Vlastimil Trllo stated that there is a lack of such capacity in Brno, which hinders the organization of large concerts. Kometa currently plays in the DRFG arena, which has 7,700 seats, but the capacity is often insufficient.

There are also other investments related to the hall amounting to hundreds of millions, such as the construction of nearly 3,000 parking spaces. According to the director of the city company Brněnské komunikace, Luděk Borový, about 2,150 spaces will be created on the surface, approximately 500 spaces in a parking garage, and about 350 spaces will be part of the hall. Modifications to the roads are also planned, the creation of a public transport loop, and a cable car from the exhibition grounds to the university campus is in the works.

The hall for Kometa was originally to be located behind Lužánky, where the city has long been dealing with property-legal disputes. Two years ago, Kometa won the title in the top hockey league after 51 years and defended it last year. Therefore, politicians began to talk about the possibility of building the hall at the exhibition grounds.
