Ostrava - The company Luxembourg Associates Limited wants to build two high-rise buildings in the center of Ostrava, primarily intended for housing. The two towers are to be constructed on Ostrčilova Street, replacing the current high-rise building, which would be demolished. The investor has submitted their proposal to the city. The council has not yet decided on it, and it will be evaluated by the city representatives. This was stated today at a press conference by Deputy Mayor Lukáš Ženatý (ODS). The whole project, named "Ostrčilova Park Towers," is intended primarily for housing but will be multifunctional. There will be garages in the basement, a commercial gallery with office spaces on the lower floors, and apartments on the upper floors. The project also includes improvements to the surrounding environment. "The company came to us and said: Sell us not only the building but also the land around it, and we will build two towers instead of one there," said the Deputy Mayor. The city has been dealing for several years with what to do with the high-rise building on Ostrčilova Street. The twenty-one-story building does not meet safety regulations, and its upper floors cannot be used because of this. Two years ago, the city received an offer to sell it and allow something else to be built in its place. "But then the financial crisis and subsequent recession came, so that plan fell through," Ženatý noted. However, the Ostrava city councillors could not agree this week on whether to demolish the current tower building and accept the offer from Luxembourg Associates Limited. Therefore, the entire project will be decided by the council on June 30. "The current building is one of the significant landmarks of the city. Therefore, the question is whether to have it demolished," Ženatý pointed out. He was intrigued by the investor's offer, thus leaning towards the option of building two new towers. The company offered the city 40 million crowns for the building and surrounding land, but at least 27 million will be needed for the demolition of the current high-rise building. Therefore, the city could receive about 13 million crowns. The company Luxembourg Associates Limited was, for example, the developer of the Luxembourg Plazy project in Prague 3.
