Hodonín – Pedestrians and cyclists in Hodonín are using the new footbridge over the first-class road near the zoo. It was built at a dangerous intersection where several tragic accidents occurred in the past. The path is used by tourists or cyclists heading to Mutěnice and Dolní Bojanovice.
The footbridge required an investment of approximately 27 million crowns. Construction began in September with terrain adjustments, followed by the construction of supports, the central pillar, and the gradual building of embankments. Then the builders installed the supporting structure of the wooden footbridge and created an asphalt path. In the spring, tree and greenery planting will follow.
The busy road I/55 may be replaced by a wider highway in the future, and the footbridge would then have to give way. "If the highway construction comes closer, the footbridge consists of two segments that can be dismantled, and its use is then planned, for example, in Rybáře across the old arm of the Morava. It was designed in this timeless manner from the very beginning, so it is not a one-purpose structure," said mayor Libor Střecha (For Hodonín).
Another investment by the Hodonín city hall, completed just before Christmas, includes an extended bike path to Lužice. The section, 275 meters long, will allow cyclists to avoid a busy intersection. Costs amounted to eight million crowns. In the future, another section will connect on the other side of Velkomoravská Street.
"Now we are in the peak phase of the project documentation and will be applying for a building permit. We would like to obtain grants for this so that we can implement the construction next year. I believe that everything will work out and all the opinions will be positive," Střecha stated.
