Kladno - Kladno may gain a new architectural landmark. An investor wants to build a high-rise building on an unused plot of land in the Kročehlavy area. The idea has been supported by city councilors who also approved the conditions for selling the land. Everything still needs to be discussed in September by the councilors. The potential sale could bring up to 60 million crowns to the city treasury, spokesperson for the city hall Lucie Steinerová informed CTK today.
According to Mayor Dan Jiránek (ODS), the building is to be about 80 meters tall, primarily intended for residential and administrative purposes, and it should also include small businesses and restaurants. "An integral part of the building will also be a multi-storey underground parking lot and a publicly accessible rooftop terrace, from which there will be a view not only of a significant part of Central Bohemia, but people will be able to see as far as the Krkonoš mountains in very good visibility," said the mayor.
The plot is, according to him, unused, and part of it has become an undignified parking lot for trucks. "The plan for a high-rise building in this location has been discussed in Kladno for a long time, and I believe that under strict conditions set by the city, a quality project for a new architectural landmark of Kladno can emerge," added Jiránek. The investor will have to proceed according to the plan and the pre-approved rules. The building may not exceed 16 standard floors and eight so-called setback floors. If the council approves the sale, the permitting processes, which take years for this type of construction, will begin. The construction is estimated to be completed in at least five or six years.
Kladno wants to use the money from the sale of the land primarily for the renovation of the adjacent housing estate and the city's infrastructure. "When we add the purchase price of the land and the contributions that the investor will make to the infrastructure, such as a kindergarten, a sewage treatment plant, etc., Kladno could obtain an amount around 50 to 60 million crowns for a plot of 7000 square meters, depending on the floor area of the constructed building," said councilor for development Lukáš Hanes (ODS).
The new building is to become one of the landmarks of Kladno next to the tower blocks. It is also intended to be one of the largest investments in Kladno alongside the construction of the new Sítenský Bridge, which means that Kročehlavy will gain a reputation as the most modern part of the city according to the city hall. The first sketch of the building is inspired by Chicago skyscrapers. The legendary mayor of Chicago, Antonín Čermák, was born in Kladno, and thus the building could also bear his name, according to city representatives.
