Lázně Libverda - In Lázně Libverda in the Liberec region, the reconstruction of the colonnade has begun. A survey last year revealed that it is in much worse condition than originally assumed, so the builders will demolish the original colonnade and a new one will be built in its place. Eva Olšová, the director of sales and marketing for Spa Resort Libverda, informed ČTK about this today. The restoration of the colonnade is expected to cost 20 million crowns, but the actual price will only be revealed during the reconstruction itself.
Work on the restoration of the colonnade began last summer with exploratory work. "A structural survey of the condition of the wooden parts of the roofs and vertical supports regarding being affected by wood-damaging insects and fungi was conducted. Furthermore, a survey of the foundation structures and retaining walls in the area of the stream was carried out, which were damaged years ago during floods. Based on these surveys and discussions not only with conservationists, it was decided to completely demolish the existing double-winged colonnade," added Olšová.
The oldest spring in Lázně Libverda - Boží voda was known to conservationists as early as the 14th century, and the spa began to develop there in the second half of the 18th century, associated with the estate's owner, Kristián Filip Clam-Gallas. Construction activities peaked under his son Kristián Kryštof, and the construction development was completed before 1820. According to the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), the set of spa buildings represents an exceptionally preserved, uniformly architecturally conceived complex that is sensitively and naturally integrated into the foothill landscape, and has been under heritage protection since 1958.
The colonnade area was last repaired more than ten years ago, now only the drinking hall of Kristián's spring will be preserved, which will undergo renovation, according to Olšová. The double-winged structure of the colonnade itself will be dismantled. The new one will correspond to the original building, but modern materials should ensure a longer lifespan. "Currently, the colonnade is being dismantled, remedial work will be carried out on the substrate, which has been damaged by floods, it will be reinforced, and then a new colonnade will be built," added the sales manager.
Lázně Libverda, located in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular, oncological, and neurological diseases, and has 467 beds. According to Olšová, work on the spa colonnade will mean only minimal restrictions for locals and guests. People can still visit the drinking fountain, the colonnade, and the cafés despite the reconstruction. Access under the colonnade is the only restriction. A new space for cultural events has been created in the spa park. "Guests have a unique opportunity to see the spa from completely new and interesting perspectives," she added.
