Ostopovice – In Ostopovice near Brno, preparations are underway for the construction of a new library and community hall. The current library is at the end of its lifespan, and the municipality does not have its own hall that could be used for exhibitions, the needs of the basic art school or the primary school, and cultural activities of associations, said Mayor Jan Symon to ČTK. Additionally, the new hall will serve for meetings of the municipal council. Construction could begin in late this year or early next year, with the project costing the municipality 25 million crowns.
The days of the current library are numbered. "The building is in a state of emergency and repair would not be economical, so we will tear down the building," said Symon.
Community halls currently exist only in the Sokol hall, which primarily serves athletes, and in the pub. "However, that is not a municipal hall, and it is also not suitable for concerts of children from the basic art school," noted Symon. The new building was designed by the architectural office Transat architekti, which has also worked on the Baťa Memorial. Subsequently, the surrounding area of the new building will also be adjusted in collaboration with garden architects.
The municipality, with a population of 1,800, is also preparing to expand the kindergarten and primary school. A new building will be constructed in place of the old one, which currently houses the post office, and it will connect with the school building that has been functioning since 2011. "We will have several new classrooms, there will also be space for a branch of the Strelice basic art school, and we will move the post office to the municipal office into the current meeting room, as it will no longer be needed thanks to the new hall," explained Symon.
