Šumperk – The first buses departed today from the new Šumperk bus station, which was reconstructed for 169 million crowns. According to city representatives, it is one of the most modern bus stations in the country, equipped with modern technology for passengers. The project creators also thought about the amenities – including a lush green roof, cooling and misting of the platforms on hot days, as well as a new air-conditioned dispatch building. The reconstruction of the station was one of the largest investments in Šumperk in recent years.

The project required several years of preparation, with design work beginning in 2014. Construction began in May 2019 under limited station operations. The main part of the construction work started in January of last year. During the reconstruction, bus line stops were relocated to Jeremenkovy and Fialovy streets. Today, the bus station operations have returned to the original location. "I would like to thank everyone for their patience and for the extra steps taken to the substitute platforms when transferring from train to bus," said the mayor of Šumperk, Tomáš Spurný.

The station has four platforms with 12 stops for suburban bus lines, one stop designated for public transport lines, and three areas for alighting. The platforms are covered with roofs featuring green vegetation. "The furniture has been supplemented with smart benches, passengers have access to wireless chargers as well as standard and USB sockets for charging mobile phones and other devices. The platforms are illuminated by smart lamps that react to movement and change the intensity of light as needed. Wi-Fi connectivity is also available," said deputy mayor Jakub Jirgl.

At the ends of the platforms, mature trees have been planted, and greenery has also been added to other areas in the station complex and in front of the station. Included is a retention tank for rainwater used for misting the platforms on hot days and watering the green roofs and greenery. The new dispatch building, which includes a waiting area for passengers, also features a green roof. Great attention was paid to navigation and informing passengers. In the first days of operation, there will be on-site information assistants at the station for any inquiries from passengers, said Petr Nemrava from the ČSAD Ostrava company, which operates the bus station.

An extensive reconstruction was carried out at the area in front of the station on the other side of Jesenická street, which intersects the location. A parking lot for 130 cars and nine bus stands were created here. A bike tower for storing 118 bicycles was also built. The area is monitored by a camera system.
