Třinec - In Třinec, in the Frýdek-Místek region, construction of a parking garage costing more than 60 million crowns will begin at the end of March. Drivers will be able to use several dozen new parking spaces starting in late November. Stanislav Cieslar, a spokesman for the city council, announced this to ČTK.

"We had to repeat the tender. During the year 2021, for example, the prices of construction materials and services increased to such an extent that the winning company was unable to meet its commitments,” said Deputy Mayor Ivo Kaleta (Personalities for Třinec).

During the summer holidays, the city will seek interested parties for the long-term rental of individual parking spaces, with which it will sign a lease agreement. The parking garage will have a total of 82 covered parking spaces. The first underground level will have 28 spaces, five of which will be for disabled drivers, while the two above-ground levels will have 54 parking spaces.

The parking facility will be built in the Sosna district, and due to the construction, residents can expect several traffic restrictions that will start to take effect on Tuesday, when the contractor takes over the construction site. "We found alternatives for the parking spaces that are currently at the future construction site and which logically cannot be used during the construction period. Just as in the case of the construction of the retaining wall for the future construction of the parking garage, it will be possible to temporarily park behind the Sosna Home. Here, 20 parking spaces should be created," Kaleta stated.

He added that parking at the senior citizens' home will be allowed from 4:30 PM to 5:15 AM, and unrestricted during holidays and weekends. Outside of the designated times, the parking spaces may only be used by vehicles with a permit from the Social Services of the city of Třinec. An additional 20 spaces will be available to drivers on an asphalt area behind the senior citizens' home, at the site of the current STaRS sports field. "We ask drivers who have their garages to use them as often as possible to help alleviate the parking complications during the construction of the facility,” Kaleta said.
