In Ústí nad Labem, the general renovation of the industrial school has been completed for nearly 600 million CZK

Ústí nad Labem – The general renovation of the building of the secondary technical school in Stříbrníky, Ústí nad Labem, cost just under 600 million CZK. It lasted two years. The original structure retained the floors and columns, everything else is new. The completion deadline was extended by about a month. The Ústí region will pay an additional approximately 53 million CZK for extra work. This was stated to reporters today by regional councilor Jiří Fedoriška (ANO).

The main reason for the increased cost of the construction was the poor condition of the insulation beneath the building, which was not possible to detect before the work began. Fedoriška emphasized that this was the highest investment in a single school building in recent times. Part of the costs was covered by a grant of 87 million CZK for energy-saving measures. The school is equipped with photovoltaic panels and outdoor shutters.

In addition to the renovated classrooms, students will have access to a leisure room, a sports hall with seating, two atriums that will serve as an outdoor dining area and classroom, or a gym in the former bunker under the school. Heating in the gym, dining room, and leisure room is provided by ceiling panels. The school also features air conditioning and a new elevator.

The school building dates back to 1990. "The renovation was very much needed. The quarry at Mariánská skála had a significant impact on this building, causing it to crack and deteriorate," said the school’s principal Jaroslav Mareš. The water and electricity systems were in poor condition. Due to the reconstruction, students attended the building of the former gymnasium on Stavbařů Street. The renovated school building is now being furnished with new furniture.

There are 700 students enrolled in the school, with the greatest interest in the IT field. "For all programs, we had more applicants than we were able to accommodate," said the principal. Starting in September, the school will open a technical lyceum focused on electrical engineering. "Currently, there is a demand for students to have a broader perspective in general education, but at the same time to have expertise," stated Mareš.
