Valtice (Břeclavsko) - In Valtice, in the Břeclav region, the reconstruction of the Baroque theater, the castle riding school, and the gardener's house symbolically began today with the laying of the foundation stone, where the National Center for Theater and Dance is to be established. The project is co-financed by the European Union funds, as stated by the South Moravian Region in a press release today. After the renovation, there will be facilities for theater and dance ensembles, as well as for researchers interested in the history of these arts. The halls with stages will be built to meet the demands of both professionals and amateurs, actors and dancers. In addition to theater and dance performances, there are plans to hold thematic exhibitions. According to previous information, the reconstruction is expected to cost a quarter of a billion crowns. The theater is to return to its original interior and exterior appearance according to preserved archival materials. The proposed technology is intended to enable both historical performances with the necessary effects and contemporary ones with modern requirements. The theater served as a tractor garage during communism, and later it became a disco. The restoration of the riding school of the Valtice Castle involves the removal of inappropriate interventions. "I believe that this will allow us to utilize the potential of the cultural heritage that we have in South Moravia," stated Governor Michal Hašek (ČSSD). The adjacent building of the gardener's house will be used as technical and operational facilities for the riding school. The house will undergo a complete renovation. Valtice Castle is part of the Lednice-Valtice area, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997.
