Vyškov - Weekend visitors to Vyškov have the opportunity, after many decades, to see the monumentally protected castle loggia in its original form. The two-year renovations of this valuable building were completed on Friday. This was the first comprehensive reconstruction of the structure in its 333-year history. The Vyškov Museum took this opportunity to open a thematic exhibition titled "History of the Castle Loggia and Garden." The restoration of the garden is also ongoing and will finish in November.

"The loggia will now serve the citizens and visitors of the city as a viewing terrace and a space for cultural and social events," stated the city spokesperson Olga Mužíková. The renovation of the loggia included the restoration of façades, arcades, interior walls, small architectural elements, and the terrace, which offers a good view of the Vyškov castle. A new staircase was created for access to the terrace. A large part of the required six million crowns was obtained by the city from the European Union fund.
The loggia was built in 1673, during the peak of Vyškov's prosperity. At that time, the castle with its garden served as an occasional residence for the bishops of Olomouc and was proudly nicknamed "Moravian Versailles." However, in later years, the building by the prominent architect Giovanni Pietro Tencalla suffered rather unfortunate interventions. In the 19th century, a building was added to the loggia containing the apartment of the castle estate's manager. During World War II, the garden housed a collection labor camp.
In the following years, many proposals for the use of the loggia emerged. It was to become the House of the Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship, a restaurant, a company lodging, and most recently, a small forms theater. However, all these plans failed due to a lack of funds. "Therefore, the city gradually leaned towards the idea of focusing solely on the loggia itself, and removing the rear, historically worthless extension," Mužíková stated.
