Prague - The leadership of the Prague 11 municipal office approved objections to the zoning proceedings concerning the plan to build two tall buildings, Duo Galaxie, in Hajes at the site of the former multiplex cinema. According to the leadership of the municipal district, the construction of the buildings with apartments and offices would lead to traffic and parking problems, among other issues. ČTK was informed about today's resolution of the council by mayor Šárka Zdeňková (HPP11). Two 72-meter high tower buildings with 21 floors are planned for the site, with Thesea as the investor.

"As a mayor emerging from a civic environment, I consider the plan for the two high-rise buildings Duo Galaxie to be insane. I have personally informed the citizens and the owners' association (SVJ) in the vicinity of Galaxie about the started proceedings, so they know it is important to engage and express their opinions. According to my information, there is a great interest in filing objections to the zoning proceedings. The deadline for submitting objections is tomorrow, Thursday, November 9," Zdeňková stated.

Currently, the site is occupied by the former Galaxie cinema building. The investor Thesea wants to demolish the existing structures near the intersection of Opatovská and Arkalycká streets, close to the eastern exit of metro station C Háje, and build two residential buildings with 21 floors that would include shops and other services. A total of 276 apartments are to be created there.

According to Zdeňková, this construction will affect the wider area of Hajes. "It is not just about the construction itself lasting several years, but about the overall burden on the area, for example, the increased population will raise demands on educational facilities, and the need for parking spaces in a location that is already catastrophic will increase," the mayor stated.

The municipal office is also concerned that the buildings will disrupt the panorama and the landmark and symbol of Jižní Město, the neighboring twin house Kupa. The panel buildings in the area reach four to 13 floors, whereas the planned buildings will have up to 21 floors. "Hajes lacks a cultural center; the area is ideal for cultural and civic facilities," Zdeňková added.
