From April 8 to April 15, interested parties can visit an information exhibition on the Black Cube case for the public in the entrance areas of the antiquarian bookshop and the Fiducia club. The information panels will provide all the essential information about the protracted case surrounding the construction of a new headquarters for the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library, which has been ongoing since 2004 and has gone through various ups and downs. The current situation, where construction of a regionally significant scientific library is being considered on private land owned by Vítkovice,a.s., without an architectural competition, is viewed as alarming by the professional community. It is also concerning that the regional authority has not initiated a broader public discussion regarding such a significant decision that, according to experts, may negatively impact the ongoing degradation of the historical center of Ostrava.
On the information panels, visitors will find not only visualizations of the original project but also press releases, a petition call, and media outputs from 2004 to the present, which are intended to help citizens better orient themselves in the entire issue. The panels will also feature texts from well-known personalities who have commented on the case, including art historian Martin Strakoš and journalist Jiří Peňás. The same exhibition will be set up on the site where the Black Cube should stand on April 7, 2015, at 6:00 PM as part of the happening "THROWING BLOCKS OR FOR A SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY IN THE CENTER." The meeting point will be at the parking lot opposite the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava. Due to the variable weather, the event organizers have decided to simultaneously install the exhibition in the entrance areas of the antiquarian bookshop, where people can come to view it for the entire following week.
Both events are organized by the beautification association "For a Beautiful Ostrava" in cooperation with the Antiquarian bookshop and the Fiducia club.
