Ostrava has become one of the cities in the last twenty years that carry out most public constructions without architectural competitions. The result is, in many cases, poorly executed or problematic buildings and renovations. Not only in the world but also in much smaller towns in our region, city leadership organizes architectural competitions and successfully realizes them afterward. The debate will also discuss the controversial plan of the regional leadership to build a new headquarters for the Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library without an architectural competition on private land owned by Vítkovice. According to experts, such a move could be the final nail in the coffin of the struggling center of Ostrava.
