High Mýto - High Mýto continues to prepare the renovation of the former district office building into apartments. The town hall has not found any other suitable use for it, so it previously commissioned a study for the conversion. Currently, work is underway on the project documentation for the zoning decision, said Mayor František Jiraský (Independents) to ČTK.
The extensive building is expected to have a total of 20 apartments, mostly with layouts of 1+kk, 2+kk, and 3+kk. In addition to them, four commercial spaces are planned. The original garages in the courtyard will be demolished and replaced with parking and greenery. "We want to renovate the building ourselves. We are concerned that, if we handed the building over to someone else, it might end up housing agency workers from local companies," Jiraský stated.
The town hall is looking for suitable grants to finance the repairs. In front of the city lies the costly construction of a senior home in the area behind the brewery, which is estimated to cost around 300 million crowns excluding VAT. "We will definitely take out a loan for the home, then we will see if we have any funds left for other smaller projects," Jiraský said.
The city leadership has not yet decided whether the apartments will be rental or sold. If it becomes necessary to raise funds for the conversion, it would be possible to privatize other apartments as well.
The building was constructed in the second half of the 19th century for the Austro-Hungarian tax office. Later, the district office was housed there, and eventually, the spaces served as a boarding school and a youth home. Between 2006 and 2008, the building was renovated with the help of state subsidies and was supposed to be used for accommodating high school students. However, the renovation was left incomplete due to a lack of money. The unused building was transferred to the city by the Pardubice region along with other lands and buildings in High Mýto, for which it had no further use, while the city transferred to the region lands and buildings used by high schools established by the Pardubice region.
