Prague - The construction of a new long-term care hospital (LDN) in Prague 6 is estimated to cost 290 million crowns excluding VAT. The LDN building on Drnovská Street will be created according to the design by Lennox architects and Rangherka 5, which won the architectural competition. The new building is expected to be completed by 2026, pending a change in the zoning plan. Jiří Hannich, spokesman for the sixth district of Prague, informed ČTK.
"A modern, open treatment facility will be established here (on Drnovská Street), where patients will have enough privacy while also having the opportunity to connect with everyday life," stated Jakub Stárek (ODS), deputy mayor of Prague 6 for territorial development and public space.
The healthcare facility in Ruzyně will be designed by Lennox architects and Rangherka 5 as a three-story building with a capacity of up to 104 beds. The building will feature a green roof and will be energy-efficient. The new facility is also expected to include a café and spaces for rehabilitation services, which will be available to both LDN clients and the public. Last year, when announcing the architectural competition, Prague 6 estimated that the construction of the LDN could cost 200 million crowns excluding VAT.
Among the jury members of the competition announced by Prague 6 in June 2021 were architects Irena Šestáková, Jan Němec, Michal Kuzemenský, and David Mateásko, along with deputy mayor Stárek representing the municipality. The jury selected the winner from nine proposals. They highlighted the advantages of the winning design from Lennox architects and Rangherka 5, including the variability of the concept allowing for room division and the respect of the proposed form of the healthcare facility towards the existing housing of family homes in the area, added the municipal spokesperson.
Prague 6 intends to build the new LDN in Ruzyně on municipal land between Drnovská, Pilotů, and Dědinská streets. A change in the zoning plan is a prerequisite for the construction. According to Hannich, the change in the zoning plan is close to approval due to the supportive stance of the Prague city hall. After the construction of the building in Ruzyně, the existing LDN in the former Chittussi hospital in Bubenč would relocate to the new space, as decided by councilors of the sixth district in May 2020.
Another healthcare facility in Prague 6, the Břevnov polyclinic Pod Marjánkou, is also set to undergo changes. A reconstruction of the building and an extension are planned. The renovation of the polyclinic is expected to cost around 500 million crowns excluding VAT. The municipal district announced an architectural competition in September 2021, with the results expected to be known this year.
