- From April 6 to 12, 2010, a week-long workshop took place under the auspices of Tomáš Drdácký, the mayor of the Prague-Troja district, on the banks of the Vltava River, involving nearly forty students from three universities in Trondheim, Norway, Prague, and Liberec.
- Nine groups, led by prof. Sami Rintala, prof. Ivan Kroupa, and doc. Zdeněk Franěk, worked on materializing a concept with the working title “Artificial Forest”.
- Our home for the following week was a floodplain meadow surrounded by a number of mature trees and defined by a newly built flood protection embankment.
- The leading professors had the option of concentrating the efforts of 36 pairs of hands into one perfect project. Ultimately, the risk was accepted that not all nine concepts would be maintained until the end, but each team would be able to truly realize what they wanted, and the experienced professors would support them in avoiding unnecessary discoveries and overly complicated and costly solutions.
- The official language of the workshop was English, but it took several days for all teams to find a common language.
- The idea of what should emerge was formed on site. Sometimes it even arose at the moment when teams stopped theorizing and began creating with their hands.
- The original intention was to use materials found directly on site. However, in the first few days, everyone felt the need to work with something unusual that had to be purchased at the other end of Prague. After dividing the grant into nine parts among all the teams, the shopping frenzy subsided, and local potential began to be explored.
- Troja has more the atmosphere of a peaceful Swiss village than that of a hectic metropolitan Prague. The residents are closer to each other, help one another, and participate together in social life, which also reflected on the organization of the workshop: people, led by the mayor, did everything they could to help, nothing was a problem for them, and they were able to fulfill our desires operationally within a few hours.
- All nine projects created during the international workshop can be experienced by you from April 13, 2010, at Trojská louka.
