Ústí nad Orlicí - The former textile factory Perla in Ústí nad Orlicí is set for demolition this year, with only the street building remaining. The town hall is preparing the area for the construction of a children's and youth house and additional parking spaces. CTK was informed today by Mayor Petr Hájek (SNK Oušťáci).
"We will demolish all production halls, only the existing dining hall and administrative building with the boiler room and distribution will be retained. This means that two-thirds of the area will be freed up," said Hájek.
The town hall hopes to complete the demolition work in the first half of this year. Costs will arise from a tender for a construction company. The city plans to sell the construction material, thereby reducing the final costs of the demolition. "We will see what price offers the companies present," Hájek stated.
The city purchased the area seven years ago. Before the textile factory went bankrupt in 2009, it employed 400 people. The children's and youth house could be operational between 2018 and 2019. The investment will cost 54 million crowns, with the town hall expecting a grant of 18 million crowns.
Part of the area will be for sale, for example, for the construction of apartments or shops. The city wants to retain about one-third of the area from the 32,000 square meters. Currently, the area has parking, warehouses, a dining hall, minor production, and two shops. "The demolition of Perla will expand free parking in the city center," said Hájek.
The local secondary arts school should also have studios in the area. The regional authority, which runs the school, will be the investor. The Orlickoústecká town hall is also considering building a cultural center in the area.
