Ústí nad Orlicí - In September, the demolition of most of the former Perla 01 textile factory buildings in Ústí nad Orlicí will begin. In their place, the city will eventually construct a new children's and youth center, and the Pardubice region will build a new vocational school. From the original site, all production halls, including the company store, will be demolished, which accounts for about 80 percent of the buildings, said the mayor of Ústí nad Orlicí, Petr Hájek (Oušťáci Association).
"In fact, the administrative building at the corner of Lochmanova and 17. listopadu streets, the Perla canteen, and the Vidocq agency building, which is not owned by the city, remain standing," Hájek stated.
The city purchased the site seven years ago. Before the textile factory went bankrupt in 2009, it employed 400 people. The children's and youth center could be operational by 2018 to 2019. The investment will cost 54 million crowns, and the city expects a grant of 18 million crowns.
According to Hájek, the demolition firm must first remove hazardous waste from the buildings, such as fluorescent fixtures and asbestos roofing. Demolition is planned to be completed by February next year since it must take into account the surrounding dense development.
Part of the site will likely be for sale, for example, for the construction of apartments or stores. The city wants to retain about one-third of the area from the 32,000 square meters. Currently, the site includes a parking lot, warehouses, a canteen, a security agency, offices, a medical practice, a driving school, and two stores.
