Prague - Prague 7 will purchase an administrative building on U Průhonu Street 38 for more than 90 million crowns, which will serve as the new seat of the town hall. Following the commission's recommendation, the city council decided on this in today's extraordinary meeting. The opposition criticizes the councilors' approach, claiming it raises distrust.

The councilors announced a competition for the selection of the seat, which attracted three interested parties. The selected building is the cheapest among all the options offered. According to Mayor Jan Čižinský, its renovation will cost approximately 100 million crowns. "This comfortably keeps us within the limit that the referendum set at 500 million crowns,” he stated.

The city council preferred this building over another administrative building on the same street, for which the owner requested 185 million crowns and whose renovation would cost 100 million. The previously considered construction on Argentinská Street 38 for 335 million crowns was also excluded from selection due to needing a 350 million crown reconstruction according to assessments.

According to the mayor's estimation, officials could move from their current location at the Kapitána Jaroše embankment in approximately two years. The Ministry of Finance, which owns the building, is pressuring for the relocation. This is evident from a letter sent to the city district. Initially, the town hall had arranged to extend the lease until 2019.

Politicians have been addressing the relocation for several years. The selection of a new seat has been accompanied by a series of complications. The former opposition accused the councilors of preparing an overpriced investment. Originally, the town hall was supposed to cost one billion. A referendum on the town hall took place in Prague 7 in January 2013 based on a decision by the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS).
