Prague - Prague 7 intends to leave its current town hall building within two to three years. This was stated today by the mayor of the district, Jan Čižinský (KDU-ČSL). The building is owned by the Ministry of Finance, which is demanding the relocation of the officials. Repairs on the new building, which the town hall purchased for 90 million crowns, are expected to start in the middle of next year. On Tuesday, the district announced the winner of the architectural competition and will continue to negotiate with the top three. They aim to make a decision by the end of June.
According to Čižinský, all officials will fit into the new building, but the town hall will retain one more detached office, located on the same street U Průhonu. It will be approximately 50 meters away from the new town hall.
Prague 7 wants to commence the reconstruction in the first half of next year. Project work, obtaining building permits, and a tender for a general contractor will take ten months if all legal deadlines are observed.
It will be clear by the end of June which project the building will be renovated according to. "According to the competition conditions, we will further negotiate with the first three awarded and evaluate their offers in terms of financial aspects and professional background," stated the district councilor Pavel Zelenka at Tuesday's exhibition of proposals.
The decision to purchase the administrative building at U Průhonu 38 was made by the councilors despite opposition resistance last November. According to the mayor, the renovation should cost 100 million crowns. This decision came after several years of complications surrounding the acquisition of a new headquarters. The original town hall leadership had planned an investment of approximately one billion crowns.
