Prague - The object made of gold will be part of the Czech Republic's exhibition at the Expo in China, announced the manager of the accompanying programs of the Czech pavilion, Martina Hončiková, today. The organizers, who were recently denied a request to borrow gold by the government and the Czech National Bank (ČNB), stated today that there will be less of the precious metal than originally planned. Visitors to the Expo will then be able to guess in a competition how much gold was used to create the object named Czeknowlogy. The exhibit is currently in production.
The actual weight of the object is to be revealed on October 28, Hončiková added.
The gold exhibit, according to the artist Federico Díaz's plan, is supposed to translate human emotions into the form of shapes, colors, sounds, or smells. It will work in such a way that visitors will sit in a sensory chair in a module that will capture their feelings while looking at a giant drop of pure gold.
Originally, the gold ingots were intended to be lent to China by the ČNB, and after the end of the World Expo, they would be returned to the state.
The Czech exhibition consists of 20 cubicles with artistic exhibits, with Czeknowlogy being just a part of it. Everything is to be arranged in the form of a symbolic city. Most exhibits aim to present contemporary Czechia, while only the so-called "Czech pearls," such as Charles Bridge, a ship's screw, or the fictional genius Jára Cimrman, are focused on the past.
From the outside, the Czech pavilion is covered with hockey pucks, which create the layout of Prague's Old Town. The World Expo 2010 in Shanghai will be kicked off by the Chinese on May 1, and the Czech national day will be on May 17 at the exhibition grounds. The Czech government has allocated around half a billion crowns for the "economic and cultural olympics of nations."
