Zlín will have calculated how much it would cost to use the hospital premises

Zlín – The city of Zlín will have an assessment conducted on how much it would cost to utilize the site of the Zlín regional hospital according to the winning proposal from the Brno office P.P. Architects, which was selected by an expert committee. Mayor Jiří Korec (ANO) stated this to reporters today. The region wants to build a new hospital on the other side of the city in Zlín-Malenovice, so they are discussing the utilization of the hospital site with the city. Both the region and the city selected two architectural firms that developed urban concepts, and last week the committee chose the project from the office P.P. Architects.

Based on the study, the city will commission an external entity to conduct an economic evaluation of the given location, which will include costs for the reconstruction of buildings, demolition, and the construction of new structures, the establishment and connection of networks, the development of transport infrastructure, as well as public spaces and other modifications according to the winning study.

"We must proceed with the care of a prudent manager. Therefore, we need to have the yield of the given plots independently assessed. The goal is an economic calculation of the winning proposal, that is, the costs of removing non-viable buildings, the costs of establishing new infrastructure, such as roads and other paved areas, water supply, sewage, electricity, gas, or the development of public spaces. Furthermore, a calculation of the plots that are economically usable, indicating how many square meters could potentially be sold on the market for commercial or residential use and at what price," stated Korec. According to him, the city is interested in how much the renovation of the buildings that will remain on the site will cost, how much the construction of new buildings will amount to, and how much the sale of apartments or office spaces would cost.

After the evaluation, the city will prepare a draft contract between the city, the Zlín region, and likely also the hospital as the current owner of the land and buildings in the area. The contract will include the price for the purchase of land in the area as well as the settlement of land in Malenovice at the location where the new hospital should be built, which is owned by the city and of interest to the region.

"As I have publicly stated several times, I welcome the region's initiative to invest in healthcare in Zlín. Once the aforementioned contract is prepared, it will be submitted to both the City Council of Zlín and the City Assembly of Zlín," noted Korec. However, he mentioned that the evaluation of the hospital site will take at least a month. The city assembly is therefore unlikely to discuss the matter before the October municipal elections, where the main topic will likely be the approval or disapproval of the construction of the new regional hospital.
