Znojmo - The Znojmo Town Hall has announced a public architectural and urban planning competition aimed at finding the most suitable use for Freedom Square and its nearby surroundings. The city leadership anticipates new themes and ideas from the competition. Architects need to consider the use of free spaces, potential construction, and parking options, said Town Hall spokesperson Denisa Šipošová to reporters.

Freedom Square is the last place in the urban heritage conservation area and its surroundings where a complete reconstruction project is still lacking. There is no study on the use and revitalization of the area either. Investors and builders are interested in the free spaces. However, the city does not want to decide on possible new constructions until it has a comprehensive concept developed.
"The square serves a variety of functions and is the busiest entry point to the urban heritage conservation area. We do not want to make decisions about something so important when we do not yet know what to do with the square as a whole," stated Mayor Petr Nezveda.
Architects and urban planners have until May 30 to submit their proposals. The results of the competition will be announced by the Town Hall in June. The author of the winning proposal will receive a reward of 300,000 crowns, while second and third places will be rewarded with amounts of 200,000 and 100,000 crowns, respectively. After the results are announced, the city leadership intends to organize a public exhibition of the competition proposals.
Busy Prague Street runs through Freedom Square. On both sides, there are currently parking areas, with part of it being grassed over. Visitors to Znojmo often emerge from here into the historic center of the city.
