Jičín - The architectural-landscape competition for the design of the Cidlina relaxation zone in Jičín was won by a group of architects: Klára Novotná, Karel Novotný, Tereza Mirská, and Jiří Neuvirt, out of nine candidates. Thanks to their victory in the competition, the architects will be tasked with preparing all levels of project documentation for the city. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Petr Hamáček (Association for Jičín). The city estimates the cost of constructing the relaxation zone, which will cover an area of about 7.5 hectares, at 40 million crowns.
The zone is set to be created in an unused area between the Nové Město housing estate and the Cidlina River, not far from industrial plants. The transformation of the site should be gradual and could take several years. The city has already purchased the necessary plots in the area and negotiated with ČEZ for the relocation of high-voltage power lines. The establishment of the zone is particularly important for people from the Nové Město housing estate, which currently lacks any parks or public greenery.
According to Novotná's design, the Cidlina zone will feature, for example, a walking path and park, a play area for children, a dog walking trail, a pump track for cycling, a skatepark, relaxation areas, barbecue spots, a track for inline skating, and a hill for sledding.
The proposal from Rehwaldt Landscape Architects from Prague took second place in the architectural competition, and the third place was awarded to the proposal from HaskoningDHV Czech Republic from Prague. The winning proposal and all other submissions will be available for the public to view during the Jičín city council meeting at Valdštejn Castle on September 18.
Before the May announcement of the architectural competition, the city hall led discussions with residents in various forms. Part of the competition's terms of reference included citizen opinions, including anonymized contributions on social networks.
In the future, the city plans to connect two streets on opposite sides of the zone. The construction of roads for vehicle traffic has not yet been included in the proposed forty-million crown budget.
In recent years, the city of Jičín has organized architectural competitions for the design of the Máj kindergarten and the transformation of former barracks into a residential district. The preparation of the barracks area for new construction is among the city's current priorities. The city estimates the cost of building infrastructure in the area at 200 million crowns.
