In the winter semester of 2016, a lecture series featuring Czech-Slovak and foreign architects will be held at the FA VUT in Brno as part of the course 'Architect in Practice' intended for second-year MSP students. On Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 5:00 PM, Moravian architect Marek Jan Štěpán will present in room A118 , drawing inspiration from both tradition and modernism in his projects and developing an archetypal concept of architecture. He focuses on projects for sacred buildings, new constructions, and reconstructions.

Marek Jan Štěpán (*1967 Frýdek Místek) studied at the Faculty of Architecture of VUT in Brno (1985-91). Between 1987 and 1994, he organized a series of outdoor workshops, happenings, and the construction of experimental buildings in Pražmo in the Beskids. From 1988 to 1990, he was a member of the experimental group Community of Noise, which focused on the mutual interaction of visual and musical creation. In 1997, he founded Atelier Štěpán with his wife Vanda Štěpánová. From 1997 to 2001 and 2005 to 2007, he served as an assistant to Prof. Ivan Kolečka at the FA VUT in Brno. He focuses on the theory of decorative structures in architecture. From 2006 to 2012, he worked as an external architecture advisor to the head of the Office of the President of the Republic.
