Blue Lecture Series - GutGut

The Blue Lecture Series will be opened by the Bratislava studio GutGut. The topic of the lecture by Štefan Polakovič and Lukáš Kordík will be Deviations.
GutGut is an experienced, influential, and innovative Slovak architectural studio led by architects Štefan Polakovič and Lukáš Kordík, which focuses on creating from small interventions to building design and urban planning. Their well-known projects, such as the residential building on Dunajská Street in Bratislava, the reconstruction of a panel apartment building in Rimavská Sobota, the five cottages near the Senecké Lakes, or the conversion of the industrial facility Mlynica in Bratislava, are based on international experience while responding to local context and history. Their recent project is the Smaltovňa Lučenec, which preserves the diversity and richness of various historical layers. The result is the integration of both the present and the past into a cohesive and functional solution. GutGut is also active in the public sphere as a co-organizer of the DAAD festival. It is a laureate of the Arch award and a multiple laureate of the CE-ZA-AR Architecture Prize.

Models are conceptual designs and solutions where, through one project as an example, we address a broader scope, often directly uncontained in the assignment. They reveal new positions of architecture, which, while created on commission, is not exclusively intended for itself.
A model is an object that mediates our understanding of complex phenomena through their simplification. It is abstract and concrete in one position, an idea, and an object. It represents reality in an indirect way. Certain situations can be understood as model-like, manifesting a segment of reality and becoming an opportunity for the emergence of a precedent.
