The ARCH Award is a prestigious award for architecture, awarded since 1998 by the influential professional magazine ARCH on architecture and other culture, which has been published by Eurostav, s.r.o. since 2006. The aim of the award is to highlight remarkable works from the domestic architectural scene and thus contribute to its further cultivation. The ARCH Award has a high professional credit that ensures the participation of top European architects in the jury. Its specific feature is the rule that one cannot apply for it. Nominations for the ARCH Award are awarded annually by the editorial board of the magazine, which consists of prominent figures from the Slovak and Central European architectural scene.

This year's ceremonial announcement of the laureate of the ARCH Award 2010 took place on November 11, 2010, in the premises of the Hall of the Ministry of Culture at SNP Square in Bratislava. The international jury that decided on the ARCH Award 2010 consisted of: Andrea Bacová (editor-in-chief of the ARCH magazine), Ľubica Koreňová (Slovakia), Richard Manahl (Austria), Pavel Nasadil (Czech Republic), and Robert Špaček (Slovakia) on September 30 and October 1, 2010. The jury assessed eleven architectural works nominated for this year's award by the editorial board of the magazine. These were: the Polyfunctional House Mlynská in Košice, the Elesko Wine Complex in Modra, the Architect's Studio in Čachtice, Digital Park II in Bratislava-Petržalka, the Memorial to the Victims of the Holocaust in Bánovce nad Bebravou, the Extension of an Apartment Building in Bratislava, Danube - Inner City Residence - in Bratislava, a Family House in Bratislava-Devíne, the Polyfunctional House Veles in Bratislava, the Manhattan Apartment Building in Bratislava, and the Extension of the Motešických Palace in Bratislava.

From the jury's evaluation:
"It is an experiment, but for me, this house is incredibly urban. I see it as a structure that can change over time... it is an opportunity because a community may be created there with its control of individual spaces, and these people will be incredibly proud of their house." (Pavel Nasadil)

"I highly appreciate that in such a space, a house with undeniable qualities has emerged, which pushes forward the thinking about where urban living may head in the future. I consider this to be a significant added value of the whole concept... It is exactly the type of housing that should exist in a city - even with the imperfect privacy we are talking about here. I believe that collective housing in a city should also mean that somewhere intimacy is compromised, that I want to communicate with my neighbor and I want to live with people in the house. I think that in this, the concept is very good - that it seeks an answer to new forms of living in the city, and for the young generation, it will not be a problem to identify with such living." (Andrea Bacová)

".. gutgut realized a very loose structure that, by its nature, offers the advantage of diverse and abundant exterior spaces. I understand this completely, because we are striving for the same in our studio. The correct material configuration, the correct positioning, and distribution of the building create added values for the interior spaces, gaining exterior spaces that are part of the concept." (Richard Manahl)

"The architects demonstrated a lot of courage. It is an act that is very important for the city and very 'gutgut'." (Robert Špaček)
