The studio KARAMUK KUO Architects was founded in 2010 by Jeannette Kuo and Ünal Karamuk.
Jeannette Kuo received her Bachelor’s degree in architecture from UC Berkeley (1999), a Master’s degree with honors from Harvard University (2004), and a Master’s degree from ETH Zurich (2010). After working for Barkow Leibinger Architects in Berlin and Architecture Research Office in New York, she began teaching in 2006 in the Maybeck Teaching Fellowship at UC Berkeley and continued teaching at MIT and EPFL Lausanne. Since 2016, she has been an Assistant Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Ünal Karamuk studied architecture at ETH Zurich. In 2002, he spent a semester at Harvard Graduate School of Design as an exchange student and then returned to complete his diploma at ETH under Professor Christian Kerez. Until 2008, he worked in New York offices including Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), REX Architecture, and Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). From 2009 to 2012, he taught at ETH Zurich with architect Christian Kerez.
Karamuk Kuo Architects bring their international background and diverse building experience into the design process. They emphasize the relationship between space and program and approach each project with the optimism that architecture is an interpretation of new ideas into reality. The studio works on projects of various scales, from spatial installations and exhibitions to complex institutional projects, always seeking new creative opportunities. Additionally, both partners are engaged in intellectual pursuits for research in design and have taught at various universities in the USA and Switzerland since 2006.
