On Friday, October 18, 2019, at 6:00 PM, there will be a lecture by Jan Šépka titled "Inspiration" as part of the series Dialogues with History at the Klatovy Gallery U bílého jednorožce.
No building is shaped from nothing. As creators, we cannot claim that we start from zero. Each of us has some personal experience recorded within us, which we project into our way of life and into our actual creation. We capture what we perceive, but with a subjective understanding. Each of us perceives the world in our own way, while also integrating the memories of others into our perception. In doing so, we create a new identity. Everything around us, what we see and experience, can be an inspiration. Inspiration is not a copy of what is seen, but an impulse for development. The aptly chosen inspiration is new energy for thinking that brings a story. The resulting form can be as precise as the stimuli, the inspiration. It is not important to see what inspired the author; rather, it is essential whether the resulting work inspires. A building lives if it has the right story.
