The December lecture on architecture from the Construction series will present the conceptual approach with which Jürg Conzett builds ground constructions as well as high-rise buildings. The physics lecturer will talk about his experiences in the construction environment while preserving the cultural significance for society.
Jürg Conzett is a Swiss civil engineer known primarily for designing bridges and footbridges. After studying at ETH Zurich and working for architect Peter Zumthor, he co-founded the civil engineering office Conzett, Bronzini, Gartmann AG in 1998, which operated until 2015 when it split into Conzett Bronzini Partner AG and Ferrari Gartmann AG, both based in Chur, Switzerland. Their most famous project is a series of three footbridges located on the Veia Traversina trail in Viamala, Switzerland. Although many of Conzett's works are in Switzerland, he has designed a number of bridges abroad as well. A bridge over the Coupure Canal in Bruges, built in 2002, was even named Conzettbrug (Dutch: Conzett's bridge) in his honor. Conzett Bronzini Partner AG collaborates on construction projects with architects and other construction professionals. One such project is the St. Benedict Chapel in Sumvitg, which he realized with Jürg Buchli according to the design of architect Peter Zumthor. Another notable project is the Mehrzweckhalle Vrin – a multipurpose hall built in Vrin in 1995, designed in collaboration with architect Gion A. Caminada, and the school building in Grono, designed with architect Raphael Zuber.
