What is the story of the most popular type of family house from the pre-November era? And what connects it to Valašské Meziříčí? The architectural historian Martina Mertová will talk about the phenomenon of šumperák and present images. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 6:00 PM at the Museum and Gallery Center in Valašské Meziříčí, Komenského 1.
In Autumn 2016, it marked exactly fifty years since the first family house of type V was completed in the village near Šumperk, based on the design by architect Josef Vaněk. Under the commonly used name šumperák, it became a phenomenon, the most widespread type of house that soon flooded Czechoslovakia. People despise it, hate it, and admire it. The success of the house must be seen in the contemporary demand for individual housing and its relatively easy and inexpensive realizability by oneself using readily available materials.
