Jaroslav Šafer returned to the Czech Republic in 1991 after a 19-year stay in England and Australia, where he worked as the design director of a renowned Australian architectural firm. In 1992, he was appointed a full professor in the field of architectural creation at ČVUT Prague.
He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT Prague in 1971, then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and the Polytechnic of Central London. He has been a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects since 1993 and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) since 1980. From 1992 to 2000, he led the Department of Architectural Creation at FA ČVUT, and between 1984 and 1990, he also taught at the University of Melbourne. In 1994, he founded the firm Šafer Hájek Architekti, where he still works today.
