On Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 7:00 PM, a lecture by historian Petr Klíma will take place at the Tugendhat Villa on the work of Brno architect Růžena Žertová, titled Architect of Homes and Things. Petr Klíma's lecture will focus on the outstanding and long-overlooked architect, designer, and artist Růžena Žertová, concentrating on her architectural work. Although Žertová was known almost exclusively as the author of department store projects from the 1960s and 1970s, her later work, which primarily focuses on family housing, is also remarkable. The versatile creative abilities of the architect were also applied in a number of interior designs and adaptations. The lecture will highlight her previously unknown studies of the Czechoslovak pavilion for Expo 67 in Montreal, a high-rise building in Prague-Bohnice, or the area for a horticultural exhibition in Vienna. At the end, Růžena Žertová herself will present her most recent project – the study of a community residential complex Nad Pisárkami in Brno.
Petr Klíma is an architect and architectural historian, a graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy at ZČU, the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT, and UMPRUM. He is the editor and co-author of the publication KOTVY MÁJE / Czech Department Stores 1965–1975 and the same-named exhibition. He also conceived and edited the book Růžena Žertová. Architect of Homes and Things.
