Růžena Žertová: Architect of Houses and Things

Monday, February 27, 2017, 7:00 PM

The first solo publication dedicated to Růžena Žertová (*1932) summarizes the life and professional journey of an outstanding and long-overlooked author, presenting her as an architect, designer, and artist. The book, edited by Petr Klíma, loosely follows the exhibition Růžena Žertová: Architect / Designer / Artist, which took place in the autumn of 2013 at the Museum of the City of Brno. The publication was graphically designed by Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss, with most of the contemporary photographs taken by Petr Jehlík. The presentation and interpretation of the work of Růžena Žertová, an exceptionally versatile creative personality, complement the existing mapping of domestic architectural, design, and artistic-crafts production of the second half of the 20th century – a creation that, in the case of the architect, emerged outside the capital, yet significantly influenced the character of the contemporary domestic scene.
Růžena Žertová is expected to attend the evening in person. There will be a short presentation by the book's editor, Petr Klíma, followed by a discussion with Růžena Žertová.

Musical accompaniment by Rudeboy
During the evening, the publication will be available for purchase on-site.
