Polish architect Robert Konieczny (born 1969) is a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. Since 1994, he has worked at the Archistudio studio in Katowice. In 1996, he earned a certificate from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the USA. Between 1999 and 2005, he led the KWK Promes studio together with architect Marlena Wolnik. Since 2005, he has managed it alone and teaches at the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice.
KWK Promes has received an honorable mention in the New Bauhaus competition in Weimar, nominations for the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award (2002, 2004, 2009), the House of the Year 2006 award for the realization of the Atrium House (Dom aatrialny), awarded annually by World Architecture News magazine, third prize in the Governors Island competition in New York for the realization of the Broken House (Dom z Ziemi Śląskiej), recognition for the best realization in Katowice, and first prize for the best new build in the SARP Competition.
Robert Konieczny is listed in the 101 of the world's most exciting new architects for 2007, announced by Wallpaper magazine, and on the list of forty European architects in the Europe 40 Under 40 competition organized by the European Center for Architecture, Design, Art, and Urban Planning in collaboration with the Museum of Architecture and Design Chicago Athenaeum.
